The McNair Ingenuity Community Broadcasting Listener Survey estimated that 57% of Australians (aged 15 and over) tune into community radio every month. In 2004, listeners totalled 7,054,000. In 2008, the number of people listening in an average month totalled 9,562,000.
This shows once again that community radio has established a loyal following of listeners that continues to grow. In non-metro areas the most common reason for listening is for local information or local news (66%)(figures provided by CBAA, CBOnline).
